This site has some big dreams and goals for contributing to the RPG community by helping and inspiring writers and providing incredible and original playable content.
Outside of the RPG community, we also plan to help the earth.
My RPG of choice is D&D, and it is so interesting to me how many of the classes and subclasses are intimately tied to the natural environment or to a deity that represents nature in some form. And that’s not to mention that the Material Plane is doubly-mirrored by a plane of shadow and a plane of wild nature!
My husband Jonathan and I wanted to find a way to bring that aspect of RPGs more into the actual world.
We also hope to find ways to use the imaginative world-building and problem-solving power of RPGs to make a positive impact on environmental issues that often otherwise seem overwhelming. Because the answer can’t be hopelessness, or apathy, or even a sincere wish that someone else will figure it out, innovate a solution, or take responsibility for change.
Outside of my RPG-life, I’m a doctoral candidate in English studying contemporary literature, specifically texts with an environmental focus. One of the things I’ve noticed in these novels is that they’re constantly trying to help their readers find inspiration and empowerment to affect the world around themselves for the better.
I can, and do, write about and study that work for an academic audience. But I don’t believe that we’re in a temporal position that would make a small audience a good idea.
Plus the RPG community is absolutely amazing!
Jonathan is a high school English teacher (with an amazing and active D&D club!) who’s working really hard to positively affect learning environments, curriculum, and the overall vision for students’ education.
We’re also the writers of D&D Duet! (More on that later.)
We’re hoping that we’re not alone in wanting to bring these things together—a love for writing, for the earth, for novels and RPGs—with a larger purpose of inspiring others and ourselves to create, in fiction and in fact, new ways and forms of relating and connecting to the natural environment and fellow creatures (human and otherwise).
We’d love for you to join us!
